Just had an accident?

Get yourself and any passengers checked. Document the scene with photos. Exchange info. Then call us — we'll walk you through whether to file a claim and arrange a tow if you need one.

Already filed a claim?

Bring the claim number and the adjuster's contact. We handle the rest — estimate, supplement, parts ordering, billing. You pay your deductible at pickup, not before. How it works →

No insurance involved?

Out-of-pocket dings and bumper scrapes are routine for us. Free written estimate, no insurance contact, no pressure. If the repair is close to your deductible anyway, we'll be honest about it.

What does a San Francisco auto body shop actually do?

We repair the outside of your car — bent panels, dented doors, cracked bumpers, broken glass, faded paint, post-collision frame misalignment — and refinish the paint to match the factory color. That's different from a mechanical repair shop, which works on the engine and transmission. Here's what we handle:

"I have had 3 five-star experiences at Lombard Auto Body. Jack and his team make the experience extremely easy. They handle the insurance side, the car comes back looking better than I expected, and the paint match has been perfect every time."

What should you look for in a San Francisco body shop?

After 13 years on Lombard Street, here's what we think actually matters — and how we measure up.

Steady tenure in your neighborhood

Same shop at 2340 Lombard Street since 2013. Same owner. Same crew. When you bring the car back in 5 years for a warranty touch-up, we'll still be here.

A named human you can ask for

When you call, you'll talk to Jack or someone Jack trained. 50+ combined years across the crew. No call center, no ticket queue, no service writer reading from a script.

A written warranty you can actually read

Lifetime warranty on collision repair, auto body work, and paint. 1-year limited warranty on mechanical parts. The full terms are on every invoice — no asterisks, no "subject to manager approval."

Direct experience with your insurer

We handle the supplement and adjuster process for every major U.S. carrier. You don't have to learn insurance lingo to get your car fixed properly. How the claim process works →

Real trust signals, not stock logos

BBB Accredited A+ since 2019. 200+ Yelp reviews · 50+ customer photos. Real names on real testimonials — not a generic "satisfied customers" badge.

Honest about what we can't do

We're a small independent shop — not a 50-bay chain. If your vehicle needs manufacturer-only proprietary repair procedures (newer Tesla aluminum-structure, certain Rivian or Lucid jobs), we'll tell you up front and recommend who can do it.

Meet Jack

A body-shop owner who coaches kids and teaches jujutsu.

JVS Bay Area profiled Jack and the shop in their 2016 Business Leadership Award — recognizing local businesses that mentor career-changers and youth into the trades. A decade later, the video still feels current — same shop, same owner, same approach.

Outside the shop, Jack coaches a youth basketball program and teaches jujutsu. The patience he brings to walking a nervous first-time customer through an insurance claim is the same patience he brings to the court and the mat.

What customers ask before bringing the car in

How long does collision repair take in San Francisco?

Most collision repairs take 5 to 10 business days, depending on damage severity, parts availability, and your insurer's authorization timeline. Minor cosmetic work (a single bumper cover, a door scuff) can finish in 2 to 3 days. Repairs involving frame measurement and full repaint typically run 2 to 4 weeks. We give a written timeline at the estimate so you can plan your rental.

Does my insurance cover the body shop I choose, or do I have to use theirs?

California law gives you the right to choose your own body shop (CA Bureau of Automotive Repair). Your insurer may suggest a Direct Repair Program (DRP) shop, but they cannot require it. We work directly with every major U.S. carrier and handle the supplement and adjuster process for you. Read the full insurance walkthrough →

Will the new paint match my car's original color exactly?

Yes. We pull the factory paint code from your VIN, then color-match using the actual adjacent panel — not just the code — because sun-fade shifts every car over time. On factory tri-coat and pearl finishes we spray test cards before committing to the panel, then blend into neighboring sections so the transition is invisible under varied light.

How do I know if my car's frame is bent after an accident?

Tell-tale signs: uneven panel gaps, the car pulling at highway speed, tires wearing unevenly on a recently aligned car, doors or trunk not closing flush, visible kinks in the unibody rails. The only way to confirm is a frame measurement on a calibrated bench. We check frame integrity on every collision intake — if it's straight, you'll see the printout; if it isn't, we'll show you exactly where.

Does Lombard Auto Body work with my insurance company directly?

Yes — we handle the full insurance process for every major U.S. carrier. We document damage, photograph the vehicle, write the estimate, negotiate supplements when hidden damage is found, and bill the carrier directly. You pay your deductible. We do not have a formal DRP with any single carrier, which means we work for you, not for them.

Do I need an estimate before filing an insurance claim?

No. You can file first and bring us the claim number, or bring the car in for a free estimate first and decide whether to file. If the repair cost is close to your deductible, it may be cheaper to pay out of pocket — we'll tell you which path makes sense. Request a free estimate →

How long is the warranty on body and paint work?

Lifetime warranty on collision repair, auto body work, and paint. Covers paint adhesion, color match, and structural workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle. 1-year limited warranty on mechanical parts on any mechanical parts replaced during a repair. The warranty doesn't cover damage from a new accident, normal wear, or aftermarket modifications applied after we deliver the car. Full terms printed on every invoice.

What's the difference between paintless dent repair and traditional dent repair?

Paintless dent repair (PDR) pushes a dent out from behind the panel without removing the factory paint — used for small dings, hail damage, and door dents where the paint is intact. Traditional dent repair is required when paint is cracked or missing, the panel is creased, or the metal has stretched. PDR is faster and cheaper; traditional repair lasts longer for bigger damage. Bring it in and we'll tell you which one your car needs.

What is a "total loss" and how does it affect repair?

A total loss is when the insurer's estimated repair cost exceeds a threshold (typically 70–80% in California) of your vehicle's actual cash value. When that happens, the carrier pays out the vehicle's value instead of authorizing repair. We can help you read the total-loss valuation and push back if the comparable-vehicle prices are low for your specific trim, mileage, and options.

Do you provide a rental car during repairs?

Most insurance policies include rental coverage that activates the day repair begins. We coordinate the timing with your rental agency so the rental is ready when you drop the car off. If your policy doesn't include rental coverage, ask us at the estimate — we can usually point you to a nearby rental option that won't blow up the repair budget.
